Bailey Estate
Dodson Avenue
Southwest American
November 4, 1913
from: Donna Watts Roberds
The 3 properties are located together. The bottom one is 1406 Dodson, actually.
The other 2 are listed as "1500 Dodson real estate buildings 1,2,3" in the 1911
City Directory.
1406 resident is showing as J. EWELL BLACK. He was President of Beall-Black Dry Goods.
He was married to IABELLE MAYNE BAILEY BLACK, later Gant.
The resident of 1500 Dodson was J. MAYNE BAILEY, brother to ISABELLA MAYNE
BAILEY BLACK. . Their Father was Dr. WILLIAM WORTH BAILEY who died in March
1913. The property probably came from him.
Isabella and J. Mayne had a sister, Katherine, that was married to J.J. Parker, the
son of Judge Isaac Parker.
My guess is they were selling all 3 properties for the medical complex that we all know
came about after that.
The Father, Dr. WILLIAM WORTH BAILEEY, shows he is a resident at 1402 Dodson and medical
office as 602 1/2 Garrison. This is from the 1907 City Directory. His son, WLLIAM
WORTH BAILEY, Jr. is listed at the same residence as a Musician.
You can still see the steps that led to 1402 and 1406 Dodson, next door to what is now
Baptist Plaza Clinic.
